Psychotherapy is a brilliant form of counselling, or “talk-therapy”, that aims to support mental health. Intentional discussions with a trained counsellor can help clients become more self-aware of their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. There are different types or methods of counselling that are better suited for the various factors that can impact mental health. For example, someone suffering with depression may benefit from a different method of therapy than someone trying to recover from a specific trauma they experienced, or than another who is looking to improve the health of relationships in their life.
The Psychotherapist and client, together, assess the client’s present-day realities as well as their past, and will develop their goals for therapy. They will choose the best method of therapy and a timeline for therapy sessions to help them reach those goals.
